2023 Emmy Predictions:
Outstanding Talk Series

Weekly Commentary (Updated Aug. 24, 2023): Jon Stewart is facing off against his buddy Stephen Colbert in the talk series category, and it’s a race too close to call.
CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” could manage its first significant win against Apple TV’s “The Problem with Jon Stewart,” which was moved to this category from hosted nonfiction this year. Stewart is an executive producer on both shows and is the only person ever to be double nominated in the category in Emmy history. And it isn’t his first time.
When Stewart helmed “The Daily Show,” he was also a nominated executive producer for “The Colbert Report,” which brought consecutive noms from 2006 to 2015.
There’s also the final outing of Trevor Noah worth considering, which could inspire members to check his name off for the last time.

Last year, Guillermo Rodriguez received the Special Honoree Award at the Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television for his 19+ years working alongside Jimmy Kimmel on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” However, that hasn’t given the Mexican comedian a title that has earned him an Emmy nom, despite the show being recognized yearly since 2012. Co-hosts or “sidekicks” haven’t typically been nominated, such as Andy Richter, who was omitted when “Conan” was recognized. However, Jon Batiste, the musical director of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” became a nominated producer for his final year in 2022.
After 658 episodes, I think it’s time to give Rodriguez proper credit on the talk show, which has been an essential factor in its continued success.
The rankings for the category are below.
The final Emmy voting rounds open on Aug. 17 at 9 a.m. PT and close on Aug. 28 at 10 p.m. PST. The 75th Emmy Awards are scheduled to air on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT. The Creative Arts ceremony will occur on Saturday, Jan. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 7. An edited version will air on FXX on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET. All events will take place at the Peacock Theater at LA Live.
